The Good Person of Szechwan(四川好人

Project: The Good Person of Szechwan

Adapted by Sanwu Theatre Collective

The Good Person of Szechwan is a stage adaptation by Sanwu Theatre Collective of Bertolt Brecht’s classic parable, examining morality, survival, and social contradiction. Through episodic structure and stylized performance, the production foregrounds Brechtian theatricality to question whether goodness can endure within an unjust system. The adaptation emphasizes ensemble work and role transformation as a central theatrical device.

Role: Ensemble (Police / Overseer / Inn Attendant)

Performed by Yehong Zhang

Serving as part of the ensemble, Yehong Zhang portrayed multiple supporting figures—including a police officer, an overseer, and an inn attendant—contributing to the play’s shifting social landscape. The role required rapid physical and vocal transitions, reinforcing Brecht’s emphasis on role fluidity and collective storytelling. Through these brief but distinct appearances, the performance supported the production’s rhythm and thematic structure.
